Born and raised a stone’s throw from Oulton Park circuit in Cheshire, Tom started his career at the age of eleven competing in the National Schools Karting Association for two years as part of the team from Tarporley Community High School.

Tom started competing in national MSA races aged thirteen and went on to enjoy a number of successes over the next five years, winning the Whilton Mill Club Championship, the NatSKA Class 8 and 7 titles in the same season and taking front-running results in the British Super One series. A move into car-racing came in 2012 in the Formula Renault BARC single-seater championship, with Tom dovetailing his racing with studying for a MEng in Automotive Engineering with Business Management, and later a further Masters degree in Engineering Business Management.

Tom enjoyed some impressive top ten results in the series but soon decided that GT competition was where he wanted to be, with two guest outings in the 2013 Ginetta GT4 Supercup with Century Motorsport leading into a two year spell in the series with the team.

Tom’s breakthrough year came in 2014 as he combined his Supercup campaign with a maiden assault on the British GT Championship, where he starred alongside team-mate Rick Parfitt Jnr with GT4 class podium finishes at Snetterton and Spa, and a superb victory at Donington Park In the Supercup meanwhile, Tom was impressing with two race wins and a total of ten podium finishes on his way to a top five points finish, with those performances earning him a seat with the Ginetta works outfit Team LNT for the 2015 British GT season in a GT3-spec Ginetta G55.

While results didn’t go his way in that series, they certainly did in the Supercup as Tom enjoyed his great achievement in racing to date. Across 27 races, Tom took eight wins, 21 podium finishes including 17 in a row, four pole positions and 10 fastest laps as he was crowned 2015 champion.

Tom’s final foray in Ginetta machinery saw him win the SP3 Class in the Dubai 24 Hour race alongside Nathan Freke, Anna Walewska and Aleksander Schjerpen in a Century Motorsport Ginetta G55 GT4, having also taken a podium finish in his first attempt at the race a year prior.
The next step for Tom was Porsche and a two year run in the Carrera Cup GB with Redline Racing. Remarkable consistency saw him finish in the top six in 29 of the 31 races he started, while four visits to the podium included a memorable third place finish at Le Mans.

 

Alongside his UK commitments, Tom competed in four races in the Formula 1 supporting Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup and contested two winter campaigns in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East that produced four wins, 15 podium finishes and the 2017/18 Vice-Champion honours.

2018 brought the biggest change to Tom’s career so far as he entered the biggest championship in the UK, the British Touring Car Championship in a Ciceley Motorsport Mercedes A-Class. A great first season in tin-tops featured twelve points finishes and five top ten qualifying results.

Tom’s impressive performances caught the eye of Team BMW and West Surrey Racing, the most successful team in recent championship history with ten overall titles in ten seasons heading into his first year with them in a new-for-2019 BMW 330i M Sport.

An impressive campaign produced a maiden pair of overall podium finishes, including a career best result of second at his home circuit of Oulton Park. With a total of ten top six results and two race fastest laps to his name, Tom had a solid foundation to build upon in 2020.

Tom did exactly that in his second season with Team BMW. A podium finish in each of the opening three weekends of the year included a sensational maiden victory at Brands Hatch, while a further top three result helped BMW to the Teams’ and Manufacturers titles’.

 

Tom continued with BMW in 2021 and was part of a third consecutive Manufacturers title success. Another impressive campaign featured a brilliant second BTCC race win at Brands Hatch, alongside three further podium finishes.
 

At the start of 2022, Tom announced a sabbatical from motorsport as he moved to Australia to support the career of his fiancée Gen. Following a one-off BTCC outing that year, he resumed his career with an exciting entry into the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series.

Making history as the first-ever international driver to compete full-time in the championship, he put in some fantastic performances; scoring a memorable maiden race victory at Winton Motor Raceway and taking regular top ten finishes on his way to the rookie class title.
